Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
South Dinajpur police arrested three individuals, including a Bangladeshi national, for illegal stay and document forgery in the Trimohini area of Hili. Acting on a tip-off, police detained Shyam Kumar Saha, a Bangladeshi citizen who had unlawfully entered India and was residing in a local village. Amrit Das, an Indian national, was arrested for allegedly providing shelter to Saha. Additionally, Alok Pal, a resident of Kismat Dapat, was taken into custody for allegedly forging PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, and Indian Bank passbooks.
According to officials, initial investigations suggest that Pal was involved in preparing counterfeit documents, which could have been used for various legal and financial purposes. Authorities are now probing whether more individuals were involved in the racket. Police sources confirmed that seized items included multiple forged identity cards and banking documents, which are being examined for further evidence. Security agencies have also been alerted to check if similar cases are linked to this operation.
Law enforcement has intensified border surveillance in response to the arrests, as cases of illegal immigration and document forgery remain a concern in the region. Officials are verifying how long Saha had been staying in India and whether forged documents had been used to access services. The three accused have been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway. Further investigations are expected to uncover additional details regarding the extent of the operation.
